The Benefits of Acoustic Panels

Why Sound Matters at Home

Modern living room with beige sofa, wooden slat wall, plant, and side table.

When we think about how a room feels, we usually focus on how it looks. Colour, furniture and lighting tend to take priority, while sound is often overlooked. Yet poor acoustics can make even the most beautifully designed space feel uncomfortable. Acoustic panels offer a simple, design-conscious way to improve how a room sounds, and how it feels to live in.

Acoustic panels are designed to absorb sound waves and reduce echo within a space. Rather than blocking noise from entering or leaving a room, they manage how sound behaves once it’s inside, helping to soften harsh reflections and create a calmer, more balanced environment. This makes them particularly effective in modern homes with open-plan layouts, hard floors and high ceilings.

One of the most noticeable benefits of acoustic panels is improved sound clarity. In living rooms, they help reduce TV echo and make conversations easier to follow. In home offices, they improve speech clarity on calls and reduce background noise, making long working days less tiring. Even in bedrooms, panels can soften sound and create a more restful atmosphere.

Beyond sound quality, acoustic panels contribute to a greater sense of comfort. Excess noise, even at low levels, can be surprisingly stressful over time. By absorbing and softening sound, panels help spaces feel calmer and more controlled, particularly in busy family homes or shared living environments where multiple activities happen at once.

Design has also played a major role in the rise of acoustic panels in residential interiors. Today’s options are far removed from the bulky foam panels associated with studios and offices. Modern designs include fabric-wrapped panels, sculptural forms and timber slat styles that add texture and warmth to a space. Used thoughtfully, acoustic panels can become a feature rather than something to hide, enhancing both function and aesthetics.

Open-plan living is another area where acoustic panels really come into their own. Large, open spaces often look beautiful but suffer from sound bouncing between walls, floors and ceilings. Introducing acoustic panels helps break up these sound reflections, making open spaces feel more comfortable and usable for everyday life.

Sustainability is also becoming an important consideration. Many acoustic panels are now made from recycled or low-impact materials, offering a more environmentally conscious way to improve comfort without major structural changes or renovations.

Ultimately, acoustic panels are one of those design choices that quietly transform a home. They don’t just improve sound - they enhance focus, reduce stress and make spaces more enjoyable to spend time in. For anyone looking to create a home that feels as good as it looks, acoustic panels are a practical and stylish solution worth considering.

What’s On Trend for Wallpaper In 2026

Walls worth lingering on

Elegant room with patterned wallpaper, marble fireplace, double doors, and wooden herringbone floor.

Wallpaper has firmly reclaimed its place in modern interiors, but not in the way we once knew it. Today’s wallpaper trends are less about filling every wall with pattern and more about creating atmosphere, texture and personality. It’s no longer just decoration, it’s a design decision that can completely change how a room feels.

One of the biggest shifts we’re seeing is towards texture. Wallpaper is increasingly being used to add depth rather than bold pattern, with finishes that mimic natural materials like linen, grasscloth and handwoven fibres. These designs bring warmth and softness to spaces that might otherwise feel flat, particularly in homes with clean lines, open layouts and hard surfaces.

Nature continues to be a major influence. Botanical wallpapers have evolved beyond traditional florals into more abstract, oversized and painterly interpretations. Soft leaf patterns, blurred florals and organic shapes are popular choices, especially in calming colour palettes inspired by the outdoors — think mossy greens, warm clay tones, muted blues and soft neutrals. These designs feel restorative and work beautifully in bedrooms, living spaces and even bathrooms.

There’s also a growing appetite for wallpaper that feels more artistic. Large-scale murals and scenic designs are being used to create statement moments, whether behind a bed, along a staircase or in a dining room. Rather than repeating patterns, these wallpapers feel more like artwork, bringing a sense of storytelling and individuality into the home.

At the same time, geometric designs are making a quieter return. Instead of high-contrast or busy prints, today’s geometrics are softer and more refined — curved lines, arches and subtle repeats that add rhythm without overwhelming a space. They’re particularly popular in modern homes where structure and balance matter.

Colour is playing a key role too. While bold shades still have their place, many homeowners are leaning towards tone-on-tone designs that add interest without shouting. Soft neutrals, chalky whites, warm greys and muted pastels are being layered with texture to create depth in a more understated way. These wallpapers are ideal for spaces where you want calm but not blandness.

Sustainability is also shaping wallpaper choices. There’s increasing demand for wallpapers made using natural fibres, recycled materials and low-impact inks. This shift reflects a broader move towards more thoughtful interiors, spaces designed to last, rather than follow short-lived trends.

Overall, wallpaper trends right now are about intention. Whether it’s a tactile feature wall, a mural that anchors a room or a subtle texture that adds warmth, wallpaper is being used to enhance how a space feels, not just how it looks.

The most successful interiors are choosing wallpaper that supports the mood of the room and the way it’s actually lived in.

Valspar Basket of Bobbins

Why I Chose B&Q’s Valspar “Basket of Bobbins” Throughout My Home

Choosing one paint colour for an entire home can feel like a risk. But sometimes, you find a shade that just works — in every light, in every room, and across every season.

For me, that colour is Valspar’s “Basket of Bobbins” from B&Q.

The Perfect Warm Neutral

Basket of Bobbins sits beautifully between beige and soft greige. It has warmth without feeling yellow, and softness without going flat. In natural daylight, it feels calm and inviting. In the evening, under warm lighting, it deepens slightly and adds that cosy, layered feel I love.

It’s the kind of colour that makes everything else in the room look better.

Why I Used It Throughout the House

Using one core neutral across multiple rooms creates flow. It makes a home feel intentional rather than pieced together.

In my home, Basket of Bobbins works:

  • In bedrooms paired with bouclé, oak and brushed brass
  • In living areas layered with warm woods and textured fabrics
  • In hallways where it softens light and adds depth
  • Against fluted furniture and natural stone finishes

It adapts without overpowering.

How It Compares

If you’re building a Save–Style–Splurge moodboard, this shade is a brilliant anchor colour. It allows you to mix high and low pieces seamlessly because it doesn’t compete with textures or statement furniture.

It’s particularly strong if your aesthetic leans toward:

  • Warm minimal
  • Soft contemporary
  • Boutique hotel
  • Textured neutrals

Finish & Coverage

The Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings interior formula offers good coverage and durability, which makes it practical for high-traffic areas. I’ve found it holds up well and maintains that soft, matte warmth without looking chalky.

Would I Choose It Again?

Absolutely.

Basket of Bobbins has given my home cohesion, warmth and a timeless base that allows me to evolve furniture and décor without repainting.

If you’re searching for a versatile warm neutral that doesn’t feel cold or clinical, it’s well worth testing.
